Megan Young wins 1st Miss World crown for the Philippines

TONIGHT, the world smiled to the Philippines as the 23-year old Megan Young was just crowned the 63rd Miss World (2013), and the first ever wearer of the blue crown from the country.

Asked on why should she win Miss World, the same question asked to every finalist, Megan Young answered with confidence and full sincerity: “I treasure a core value of humanity and that guides people why they act the way they do. I will use this to show other people how they can understand each other. … as one, we can help society.”

We did a live blog earlier and they’re posted below. For now, let us enjoy the moments as tonight was one of the most awesome nights of all especially for Filipino pageant fanatics out there.

Miss World 2013 Philippines Megan Young

Miss World 2013 Philippines Megan Young

This is a good news for the Filipinos now watching the Miss World competition as Megan Young is leading in the competition followed by Brazil and Australia. It is surprising though that one of the early favorites, Miss Ukraine didn’t make it to the semi-finals.

9:01pm: Now is time for the semi-finalists to ramp on stage. Every finalist is called on stage.
9:04: BLUE now performs while the semi-finalists are dancing with the beat on the background. After their performance, they said, “Good luck to the remaining girls.”
9:07pm: The lady host, which name I didn’t bother to know, stammered on her first tried but say it nicely on the second try. The TOP FIVE Finalists will be revealed after the break. The PEOPLE’s CHAMPION will be announced as well. WHO WILL SHE BE? Is Miss Gibraltar could still make it? Or the previous second place in the poll, our very own Megan Young already took the lead? Result in a few minutes.

9:30pm: Each finalist takes center stage to explain to the judges why they should win Miss World. I didn’t get all their answers verbatim but I will update you with that in a few.

But for me, without all the biases for Megan, she nailed it. She is the sincerest lady who answered why should she win Miss World by saying it is by living in the core values of Miss World — in order to help the society.

9:40pm: Miss World 2012 Wen Xa Yu had her talk of being Miss World. She was then called on the stage for a few questions. Then she sang with Miss Talent winner Indonesia and second placer, Miss Australia. Wen Xa was last year’s Best in Talent.

Special Awards (Challenge Winners):

Best in Talent: Miss Indonesia Vania Larissa
Top Model Award Winner: Miss Philippines Megan Young
Beach Fashion Award Winner: Miss Brazil Sancler Frantz
Beauty with a Purpose: Miss Nepal Ishani Shrestha
Multimedia Award: Miss India Navneet Dhillon
